About Us
Our Mission
We cultivate not just food, but a flourishing future — transforming underutilized land into thriving farms, training and empowering the next generation of underrepresented farmers, and ensuring every food dollar strengthens our communities.

Our Story
Plant It Forward (PIF) began in 2011 when the O’Donnell family set out to help newly resettled refugees—many with deep agricultural roots—rebuild their lives in Houston through farming. With community support, a simple idea took shape: help our newest neighbors plant roots in the soil and in their new home. From a single plot of church-donated land and a small group of dedicated teachers and supporters, PIF launched its first farm.
Nearly 15 years later, PIF manages five farms and supports a network of more than 50 partner farms that sell through our Food Hub, share resources, and help feed Houstonians. Today, PIF is building the next generation of agricultural leaders. Through training, cooperative farming, and support for independent and partner farms, we are expanding Houston’s agricultural workforce, transforming idle land into productive farms, and strengthening pathways from field to table.
Over the next 10 years, we aim to train and support 1,000 new farmers and reinvest $100 million in local food spending—making Houston a national model for regenerative, community-powered food.
