Why We Farm
Many underrepresented citizens have the skills and passion to farm but lack access to land, training, and markets. We bridge that gap by turning underutilized land into productive farms, and equipping new growers with the resources to provide our communities with responsibly grown produce.
Pathways To Farming With PIF
A Cooperative Future
We began by helping refugees launch independent farm businesses—providing land, training, tools, and market access while sharing infrastructure like our Food Hub. Over time, we have learned that independence alone doesn’t ensure stability. Today, we are evolving into a cooperative farming model—bringing growers, staff, and partners together under a shared brand and mission, with flexible pathways for farmers to grow based on their experience and goals.
It Begins With Education + Training
Through our comprehensive workforce development approach, we prepare urban farmers with hands-on training and classroom courses that create pathways to farming with us or supported by us.

How We Farm
We’re committed to cultivating produce using only natural, organic practices. Our farmers never use syntheticpesticides, they enrich the soil with compost, and they care for the land with intention, ensuring every harvest is nutrient-rich, flavorful, and worthy of your table.

What We Grow
By growing with the seasons, we harvest produce at the height of flavor and nutrition. Our farms feature both familiar favorites alongside globally inspired crops—celebrating the diverse cultures that contribute to Houston's vibrant food scene.

Plant It Forward works alongside experienced agricultural experts to equip our apprentice farmers with the skills, mentorship, and practical training needed to build successful farm businesses.
Joseph R. Novak, Ph.D. guides our apprentice farmers, bringing his expertise as a Faculty Lecturer in Biosciences at Rice University and Director of the Betty and Jacob Friedman Holistic Garden.
