We bought land near Fethiye before checking the water, and paid for it
Two years ago we bought 1400 m2 outside Fethiye. My husband wanted olives, I wanted only tomatoes and some shade. Neither of us did farming before, we are city people from Izmir.
The mistake was the water. The well was there, the seller showed us water coming out, we were happy. Nobody explained that in August it goes almost empty and the municipality line does not reach that road. First summer we were carrying water in canisters like at a camping.
We fixed it in the end, deeper drilling, expensive, and the neighbour helped us with his tractor. He also told us the old olive trees on our parcel belong to his uncle, which is still not clear until today.
If I could go back I would spend more time looking and less time falling in love with the view. I was comparing parcels on https://turk.estate/en/ for maybe a year after we bought, and only then I understood what a normal price for our size is.
Second season tomatoes were good. Olives still nothing, my husband is angry with them.
